Bare Knuckle The Mule 6-String Pickup Set – Raw Nickel Covers/Nickel Poles

This set features 50mm Bridge Spacing (BKP neck models are always 50mm), 4 Conductor Wiring, Wax Potted Coils, Long Legs on the Bridge and short Legs on the Neck.

*The raw nickel cover pictured is not the exact set we have in stock.  The color and side to side “brushing” is very consistent from set to set.  However, the small faint scratches are random and might not look exactly like the pictured version.  We will eventually update this picture to be the exact one.*

Our Take:    This is one of the most versatile pickups in the BKP line up.  It’s power is in the lower range (under 9k Ohms) and the Alnico IV magnets sweeten the treble response,  which make it an obvious choice for sweet authentic classic tones.  However Bare Knuckle’s approach to pickups always focuses on clarity and articulation.  Even under extreme levels of gain and compression these pickups stay clear and balanced, making them a not so obvious choice for modern metal.  These pickups do best in warm/dark guitars or guitars with tons of low-mids that typically run the risk of sounding muddy.  They are often thought of as a lower powered Abraxas, however I find them to be more similar in feel and voicing to a lower powered ceramic nailbomb.

The solid nickel silver baseplate and cover are exact replicas along with the butyrate bobbins, maple spacers, nickel-plated slugs and Fillister no.5 pole screws. Sand cast Alnico IV magnets give The Mule faster response in the bass, fuller mids and better control in the high end. Even at low levels of gain, smooth harmonic feedback which is full of overtones is possible, while clean sounds have depth and unmistakable vintage character. The idea of these pickups is to have a vocal tone that’s expressive and clear, while driving amps commandingly into overdrive when required.”
