Description

Bare Knuckle VH-II 7-String Neck Pickup (Black w/ Black Screws). 4 Conductor Wiring.

Crystal clear highs, defined bottom-end and the versatile output of a vintage hot humbucker lay down the ultimate in clean overdrive and even harmonic response.

Totally unique approaches to the asymmetrical coils of the VHII humbucker allow it to retain phenomenal clarity whilst maximising the output of 42 AWG plain enamel wire. Voiced to capture the original raw energy and brown sound of the late ’70s, the vintage cut Alnico V magnet allows for a really open and touch sensitive feel. Harmonic overtones are strong and defined with excellent string separation producing a huge sound with superb pick attack even when used with extreme amounts of preamp gain. The design of the coils allows for great split and parallel options, working extremely well with rotary tone selectors.

Nick’s Take

The VH-II is one of the more popular Bare Knuckle neck pickups, and rightfully so. Its juicy, harmonically rich, singing lead tones and articulate naunced response makes it a perfect fit for almost any guitarist. However the VH-II bridge model is often overlooked. This is a shame, because the bridge sounds just as good! It has a raunchy, tight crunch that is both warm and cutting at the same time. It has a nice upper mid-range roar that jumps out of the speakers, and a crisp attack that lends itself well to both classic and modern rockers. The lows are thick but controlled.

While the VH2 was designed for more 80s shredder guitars at heart, I actually had a set of these in an all mahogany PRS guitar that was tuned down to B and it was one of my go-to studio guitars.
