Description
Introducing the NAGUS, our first ever Axe Palace exclusive pickup designed in collaboration with our friends at the Seymour Duncan Custom Shop! The Nagus is the result of over 8 months of vigorous play-testing and R&D to help create the most inspiring, incredible sounding metal/hard rock pickup on the market. Power, aggression, articulation, and harmonic richness with no compromises.
The NAGUS is supremely aggressive, articulate, lively, harmonically rich and tight. It’s powerful and brutal but dynamic and fun to play. It does not have an over-compressed like feel so many “modern metal” pickups suffer from. It is exceptional for both lead and rhythm playing: Chugs, screaming harmonics, fast trempicking, huge complex chords, staccato riffs, ultra low tuning stuff, singing yet cutting lead tones, it’s all here and in perfect balance.
In the course of our testing, we tried out just about every type of magnet possible, every type of material and winding, tried hybrids of two different models to see seeing how they interacted, compared to other high end boutique pickups we sell, etc. All of us here at The Axe Palace, who all have vastly different preferences and styles of tone that we strive for, all agreed the NAGUS in its final version was the clear winner. And best of all, the NAGUS sounds amazing in every guitar type (snappy bolt-on, chunky set-neck, 7-string, 8-string, etc).
The NAGUS also looks sleek, and comes standard with matte black bobbins, black pole pieces, and a classy subtle “S” logo in the bottom right corner. It is available in 6-string, 7-string, and 8-string and a variety of color/cover options.
While experimenting with the Nagus in a variety of guitar types, we found the best pairing to be the Seymour Duncan Sentient neck pickup. The power is balanced between the two and the smoothness and warmth of the Sentient is a perfect compliment to the Nagus. For those of you looking for a setWe have shop floor custom versions of the Sentent made to match the aesthtics of the Nagus Bridge.
A note from Nick, the owner:
“The NAGUS is named after the “Grand Nagus” a character from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, my favorite tv show of all time. For those who get the reference: let’s just say these pickups sound heavier than 80 bars of gold pressed latinum! The idea for this pickup was to take all the things I’ve learned over the past 25 years of pickup experimentation and help come up with the best metal/hard rock pickup possible. I’m so proud of how it came out!”
Thank you for giving our pickup a chance, I am confident you will absolutely love it! Demo clips and videos coming soon!
